A four-day bag that goes under a cabin locker. Vegetable-tanned shoulder, saddle-stitched, brass that will not flake.
Three views · the bag opened with a weekend in it, the shoulder it is cut from, the strap that comes with it
Colour
Both darken about two shades in the first six months.
Shoulder strap
105 cm sits on the hip on most people; 128 cm clears a winter coat.
3 left on the shelf · the next cut of six is booked for 11 April
What it carries
We packed the bag for a real four-day trip, photographed it open, then wrote down everything that went in. Nothing below is an estimate.
Opened, emptied, counted
We do this with all twelve before a single one goes on the site. If the photograph cannot show it fitting, the page does not claim it.
One hide, two needles, four stages. This is what the four-week lead time on a cut-to-order bag is spent on.
A shoulder is not a rectangle. Giulio lays the pattern over the hide and works around the brands and fly-bite, which is why two Valderas are never the same colour across the panel.
Every edge that turns gets thinned to 1.1 mm first, by hand with a French knife. Skip it and the corner doubles in thickness and will not take a stitch cleanly.
Seven stitches to the inch in waxed linen, pulled from both sides so the seam locks even if a thread is cut. Roughly forty minutes a metre, and there are just over six metres in this bag.
Sand, wet, rub, wax, repeat. The edge is the part your hand meets most and the first thing that goes grey on a cheap bag, so it gets four passes and a final one in gum.
The bag, the shoulder strap in the length you chose, a cotton dust bag, a 50 ml tin of neutral wax, the cutter's card with the hide number and the date, and a stamped repair form. The base pocket ships with a removable 3 mm board in it.
Probably not — it collapses when it is half full because there is no frame in the sides. If you travel with two shirts and no laptop, the 21 litre Libbiano Market Tote is €435 cheaper and does the same job badly only on aeroplanes.
From the shelf: tracked, two to three days in Italy at €6, four to six across the EU at €14, seven to twelve elsewhere at €28, and free once the order passes €250. Cut to order: four weeks from the day we take the deposit, then the same delivery times.
Sixty days, at our cost, unworn and with the brass unmarked. Pack it in anything — we reuse the box. Cut-to-order bags with a blind-stamped monogram cannot come back, and we will say so again in writing before we cut.
Almost nothing. Wax it twice a year with the tin in the box. Let it dry away from a radiator if it gets soaked. Do not condition it monthly — over-fed leather goes limp, and the frame of this bag is the hide itself.
Bring a weekend's packing to Peccioli on a Thursday and we will load the bag in front of you. If it does not close, you have not lost anything but the drive.
