Before you choose a size

What a litre looks like

Every capacity on this page was measured by filling the closed bag with rice and weighing it. The three sizes below are the ones people ask about, with the everyday objects that actually go in them.

  • 6 lPhone, keys, a paperback, a small water bottle lying flat. No laptop.
  • 18 lA 14-inch laptop in its sleeve, an A4 folder, lunch and a jumper.
  • 34 lTwo shirts, a suit folded once, a 16-inch laptop and one pair of shoes.

A strap is a spare part, not a trim

Every bag we have made since 2009 takes the same 16 mm brass clip, so a strap bought today fits a bag bought thirteen years ago. Hand us a tired one at the bench and we will re-stitch it for €24 while you wait, or post it back inside a week.

The questions the bench gets every week

Delivery, returns, sizing and what is in the box

What does delivery cost and how long does it take?

Italy €6, two to three working days. Rest of the EU €14, four to six days. Everywhere else €28, seven to twelve days. Free anywhere once the order passes €250. Everything is tracked and goes out of Peccioli on Tuesday and Friday.

How long do I have to send it back?

Sixty days, at our cost, as long as the piece is unworn and the brass is unmarked. Print the label we email you and leave it at any post point. Made-to-order pieces are the exception: those are yours once we cut the hide, so ask us first and we will send photographs of the panels before the knife goes near them.

Which size takes a laptop?

Anything from 14 litres up. The Ghizzano Tote takes a 14-inch machine flat in its sleeve; the Montelopio Satchel takes 15-inch; the Valdera 34 takes a 16-inch with room for a charger. The 6 and 9 litre bags do not, and we would rather say so here than take the order.

What arrives in the box?

The piece, a cotton dust bag cut from the same bolt we use for the linings, a tin of neutral wax, the cutter's card with the hide number and the date, and a stamped repair form. No tissue theatre, no gift box you will throw away.

Will the colour change?

Yes, and quickly. Vegetable-tanned shoulder darkens about two shades in the first six months, faster where your hand sits. Tan goes to a deep honey, cordovan goes almost black at the corners. The photographs on this site are of pieces between two weeks and four years old, so you are seeing both ends of that.

Can I have one cut to order?

Four weeks, and only in the colours above — we buy whole hides and will not order a one-off skin. Changes we do take: strap length, a second interior pocket, blind-stamped initials, and swapping brass for blackened steel at €18.

Not sure which one takes your day?

Tell us what you carry on a Tuesday and we will reply with the two pieces that hold it — and say plainly if neither does.
